Deana Hartman was presenter for BTQG and presented a workshop for which I signed up. Her topic was beading. It was a two day workshop. The first day, we learned about different beaded "how tos". We then made a needle book for which to practice her techniques throughout the rest of the day. We were told to bring a quilted piece on which to bead on the following day. I quickly put together this version of my seaweed pattern that I had designed for Whimsical Seascape. I worked late that night quilting it, and then found that we didn't have time to actually bead on it in class after all. Yet the idea had been developed, so I completed it using beading to illustrate water movements and the bottom of the sea.
I found a design I liked in one of the books I have and made two extra “leaves” for the seaweed. I don’t remember which book at the moment, but if I run across it, I’ll add it here. I found I really enjoy beading, but I find that it doesn’t usually work well with my “realistic” depictions of nature. But I use it when I can on fun pieces.
