I had gone to the St. Louis zoo and taken photos of the animals. In the zebra section, there was a baby zebra. I had always wanted to make a quilt of the zebras. So, when I chose my row by row topic to be African to hang in the loft with my African collection, I decided it was a perfect time to do the zebras. Instead of a landscape of the zebras, I decided to crop a photo to use to make the pattern and just do the head. I wanted to capture the mane and soft looking nose up close. I wanted to include the baby, so I flipped the picture of the baby in Photoshop and drew the pattern to situate her under her Mom. The stripes were endless! but fun. My pattern for the big quilt called for traditional piecing on the left and bottom. When I decided to not include it in the main row by row quilt, because of the size of the other blocks, and where I wanted to hang it, I left it that way. It needed the piping to separate the block from the piecing. I really enjoyed doing this one. I had lots of African fabric and had fun choosing the fabrics in the traditional pieces
