Jackie Self Portrait

Designed and quilted by Jackie Berry

Made for a block in row by row

Finished in August, 2014

12.5” width x 14.25” length

On the 3rd round of the Row By Row group, Pushing the Limits, one of the ladies chose to have us each make a self-portrait of ourselves. She wanted us to make a block for her to show our favorite colors, things we like, and wanted a "fun" characterization of ourselves.

So, to make a “fun” image, I "emphasized" my white hair, garnishing it with beads, ribbons, one of my favorites - dragonflies, all in white. I used a teal background, my favorite color, and African and black and white fabric. I used June Tailor Colorfast “white fabric” Sew-In Fabric Sheets for Inkjet Printers to print a photo of myself as my technique to reproduce my image on fabric.

My husband wanted me to make two, so we could keep one. I "toned down" the one I made for myself, making it my kind of quilt, rather than her style. She never got the quilt blocks put together, so when she passed away, I was given back my block and will finish it for her, in memory of her "fun" personality.
