Our row by row group called Pushing the Limits, met for the 2nd round of quilts during 2006-2007. I was the organizer, took notes, typed up the guidelines and rules, and made the schedule for the passing of the boxes from person to person, so that everyone got everyone else's box in order to make a block for every person in the group. We met four rounds over a period of about 8 years. I'm taking this opportunity to explain a little about the procedure for the row by row group for anyone who might want to know more.

This particular quilt that I'm journaling Sugar Maple Leaves, was made by me for Susan Forrest Kelly whose topic was leaves. I love nature and leaves. I have collections of leaves of different types and colors through photographs, pencil etching, and some that I've collected and decoupaged. So, this block was fun to do for two reasons. I love and I had lots of pictures of the various colors of these leaves. Also, Susan was one of my closest quilting friends for many years.

Susan had trouble trying to organize these blocks into one cohesive and aesthetic unit, so as many of us do, she set it aside, hoping for inspiration and some day finishing it to her satisfaction. That day never came before she passed away. This block was retuned to me and to the others who participated, and I chose to finish mine for her. Susan was a very talented artist. Once I was given the block back, I quilted and bound it for a small wall-hanging in memory of her and our times together.
